Geoengineering

Brought into the public imagination by the 2013 novel  Geoengineering is a largely hypothetical technology expected to advance to feasibility over the next decade or two.

The idea has risks:

  • It involves untested technologies with only theoretically understood implications
  • Its impact would not remain in one place, meaning, one nation's decision to deploy geoengineering could have positive or very negative consequences for other nations. Some have worried its use could lead to conflict.
